Our weekend 25th June 2016

As Darren was away at the Glastonbury Festival this weekend it was just me and Sonny for the whole weekend.
We had such a lovely time together and I really loved spending quality time with just me and him. I guess it reminds me of back when I used to be on maternity leave with him.
On the Saturday we joined a local musical class for baby's and toddlers. This was free for us as it was at our local national trust place The Courts Gardens in Holt. Sonny really enjoyed it and couldn't stop smiling. After this we sat in the gardens and had a little picnic. This was hard work as he kept trying to crawl away and the grass was still a little wet from the rain. We then went for a small walk around the gardens.
After this we just went home and Sonny napped then we played at home for the rest of the day.
I treated myself to a takeaway pizza and a glass of wine.

On Sunday we went down to the local town park as they had a Veterans Day with lots going on. We met my sister down there with her kids. We fed the ducks first then looked round the Veterans day and then popped to the park for a go on the swings. We were down there for about three hours then walked home and Sonny napped and then we again stayed home and played.
This was our weekend and it was a really good one which is why I wanted to share this on my blog this week.

Hope you all had a good weekend. What did you get up too?

Sonnys 1st Birthday Ideas

I can't believe my baby boy Sonny will be one in a weeks time. I thought I would share some of the plans and ideas I have for his birthday.

I am not going to go with a theme as he isn't really into anything yet as he is still too little. So my plan is to keep to a colour theme which will probably go wrong when I start to buy bit and bobs for his birthday. So the colours theme I am going for is Blue, black and white.

I really want to get a huge number 1 balloon in blue. I am a little worried as the shop in town only had pink ones in the other day. I might go and see if i can pre-order the balloon. Also I plan to get some normal balloons blue ones again. I thought of a great idea to pop some in his cot for a great birthday photo. Like a ball pit but a balloon pit.

I love the banner in the photo above, which I have actually ordered from eBay. I need to try and find some more I like so I will probably pop into town and look out for some more. We have been taking milestone photos of Sonny since he was born and I thought these would look great on a piece of string with pegs. Like a banner but showing him growing up over the year. I ordered them as retro prints on Photobox, I am just waiting for them to arrive through the post.

Now its time to be Mummy. I am planning on baking two cakes for his first birthday. I am not sure how well this will go but I will try my best. I am doing a number one cake but I am still deciding on the design of the cake. Not sure what I will do for the second cake yet maybe the same thing or maybe something easier. The reason I am doing two cakes is because his birthday celebrations are on a different day to his birthday, so he will need two. I am not the best baker so they could end up looking rather funny.

Cake smash
I have his cake smash booked in two days before his birthday with a local photographer who doesn't charge a huge amount. I have always seen photos of other one year olds having cake smash photo shoots and it looks fun. I am going for a nautical theme for this as its the same theme as his bedroom. I have bought some nautical bunting and some anchor nautical pants and bow tie. I have ordered a cake and sent them some ideas of what I would like. I hope the cake will be amazing and Sonny will have fun destroying it. Really looking forward to this and seeing how the photos come out.

Now for the actual celebration. His birthday is on a Wednesday so I plan to go out somewhere fun with him for the day. Maybe soft play or a farm or something but it will probably only be me and Sonny as everyone else is working. I need to investigate where to go. The weekend after his birthday I think we will have a BBQ party at home with just close family. I don't have a back up plan for if it rains. This is something else I need to start thinking about. Our house is too small to invite everyone round for an indoors party.

Working full time I am finding it hard to find the time to arrange things. I want this to be so special for Sonny as its his first birthday. Thankfully I have his birthday week off work so I can enjoy the whole week with him.

Wedding Planning #1 Wedding Booked

Wedding Planning

The wedding is finally booked....... well kind of

I am planning on doing a series on my blog and YouTube channel all about my wedding.

Darren proposed to me on Valentines Day this year. We just went for a nice Steakhouse meal in Bath and he then went for it after the meal. Obviously I said yes, I was not expecting this at all and I am not one to sit and dream about my wedding plans. So this was a massive shock for me as I didn't think Darren would ever propose. Having a baby changes your views on life and I am happy now that we are getting married.

Darren wanted to start planning straight away but I will still letting it sink in.

When we finally started looking round I couldn't believe of the cost for a simple wedding with a sit down three course meal afterwards. I just cant seem to bring myself to spend so much money on just one day. Yes its a special day but I don't want to spend the next few years trying to pay it off.

I had thought about a wedding abroad so when we were in town one Saturday we popped into the Thomson travel agents and picked up a brochure. I couldn't believe how much cheaper it was to get married abroad. We wrote down the pros and cons of going abroad to do it and decided to go ahead and book one in Cyprus Paphos.

Pros of getting married abroad

Nicer weather
Less planning as the travel agent will plan most of it for you
Nicer scenery
Its something different
You can get married outside
It will be a smaller ceremony

Cons of getting married abroad

Not everyone will be able to attend
It may be harder to plan as being in contact with people in another country
You will be stuck on honeymoon with friends and family
Will you be guaranteed good weather?

So we actually booked the wedding three weeks ago, we paid a deposit and we signed the wedding contract. We have given them our date preferences you can only give them up to three dates and you have to be in the country for a week before you get married. We now have to wait eight weeks for them to get back to us and confirm if they can fit our wedding in on one of those dates. This is the annoying part. We cannot plan anything until this confirmation has come through and it feels like I have been waiting ages. I really want to get the invites out and start planning on who is coming out to Cyprus with us. Its just a waiting game at the moment. It seems a long time eight weeks just to confirm a wedding date and I am unsure why its takes them this long.

I will update more on my wedding once we go ahead and can start planning more.

Did you get married abroad or are you planning on getting married abroad? Any tips or advice would be helpful.

Superhero Themed Father Day Ideas

Superhero Themed Father Day Ideas
I thought I would have a theme this Father Day, I have picked the theme of Superhero.
The first thing I made was a video to go live on YouTube on Sunday 19th June. So Darren does not know anything about this so we can all sit together and watch this on Fathers Day morning. I put a few clips of him and our son Sonny together with a Superhero poem popping up inbetween the clips. I love it and its one of my favourite videos so far. I will put the link here but it wont go live till 19th June so the link wont work until then.
I then found a T-Shirt in Matalan for £3 which says 'My Daddy is my Superhero' perfect I thought for Sonny to wear on the day.
I started searching the internet for Fathers Day superhero ideas and found a cake topper. So now I need to get my bake on ready to make a cake next weekend for the special day.
I come across a good shop on FB I will link it below. I have ordered a photo frame as seen in the photo above but it will be personalised to how we wanted it with just Daddy and Sonny. I am unsure if this will arrive on time though as it was hard to get hold of as it was out of stock every time I tried. I ordered it late but fingers crossed it comes on time.
I also ordered a superhero card online at MoonPig. I have shown it in the photo above. I thought it was perfect to go with my theme.
So that's everything I have planned for my Superhero Fathers Day. If you have any other ideas let me know in the comments.

I am really excited as its Darrens first Fathers Day. If the weather is nice I think we are off to a local national trust place for a Fathers Day BBQ.

Picking a Nursery or Childcare

Picking a Nursery or Childcare

Sonny's first day at nursery

Picking a nursery/childcare is one of the hardest things you will need to do for your baby. You want to make sure its the right one for your child. That they look after them in the right way and which one he will be happiest at.
Here are a few things that I thought about when picking the nursery/childcare for Sonny.

1, Location, Is it on route to work or near where you live?

2, Parking, is there enough parking. Is it safe?

3, Atmosphere, was it relaxed and calm and not false because you were looking round.

4, Ofsted, you can look on the local council website for a report on this.

5, What things do they include in the price? Food, Nappies, wipes etc.

6, Security, do you need a pin or password to enter the building?

7, Are the staff fully qualified?

8, Does the outside space (Garden) look secure and safe?

I would advise to look around at least 3 nurseries to get an idea of all the things listed above.
I went by this list when picking a nursery for my son and I feel I have picked the best nursery for him.
Its just down the road from where I work which is ideal. When I looked around I didn't feel they were putting on a show to impress me. Everything just suited me and Sonny perfectly. Lucky for us it was the cheapest nursery we looked at, which was a bonus.

You could even ask if you could spend a couple of hours one day in the nursery with your child to get a feel for the place. They should allow you to do this. I decided against it as I wanted Sonny to know from the beginning this is somewhere you go without Mummy. We did however do two settling in sessions after signing up. He attended these on his own for two hours.

Thanks for reading, any questions please just ask in the comments.
